The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Race to Zero Student Design Competition (Race to Zero) inspired collegiate students to become the next generation of building science professionals through a design challenge for zero energy ready homes. This was a multidisciplinary project, students involved apart of Charge to Net Zero were; Civil Engineering, Interior Design, and Mechanical Engineering majors. Together they developed a home for an ADA compliant net zero home for a disabled veteran who attends the University of New Haven. Working alongside professors and industry partners Charge to Net Zero was selected to attend the DOE's final competition in Golden Colorado in April 2017. This experience provided each student with endless opportunity to learn and work collaboratively with their teammates in different disciplines as well as to engage in an experiential education.
