Designing Cafés for Community
Student Work
This project was an opportunity for students to design a café utilizing a real tenant space in Prato's Centro Storico, the city's historical center. The café project focused on community building using third place theory in the built environment. Local references were drawn for concepts including the historic wine windows of Tuscany and field trips such as the Pompeii archeological site. Student work received exceptional feedback from Italian architects and café owner that served as guest critics for the studio.
